Year of the Tiger - Code: 769
According to oriental traditions _ customs, in the cycle of twelve years, each is symbolized by one animal in zodiacs. 1998 is Year of the Tiger in turn. Tiger, the 3rd in zodiac circle, is a wild animal. He has been symbol of power _ become a popular theme of Vietnamese folk-paintings. for decoration and worship on Tet holidays.
On each occasion of the Old Year out _ the New Year in, as usual a New Year stampset is released. On the threshold of 1998, to make our farewell to the Buffalo - a dearest friend, and to welcome the Tiger - a "Lord of the Forest", Department General of Posts _ Telecommunications (DGPT) issues the stampset "Year of the Tiger" comprising 2 values with the denominations of 400d _ 8,000d respectively:

- The 1st "Three Tigers" depicts a Mother _ two Children. The Mother with the sturdy body sits majestically _ firmly in a vertical position together with her lovely _ queer children.
- The 2nd "Red Tiger" features a Red Tiger in an imposing position expressing his extraordinary power.
Both values are designed to imitate the folk paintings showing the image of tiger with peach _ apricot blossoms on the background of five-colour cloud expressing the Tet atmosphere.
